Introduction
Posted on 07. Jun, 2005 by Kevin Buckstiegel in VideoBlogs
I’m taking a couple risks here. First, I’m subjecting my face, voice, actions, etc to the world for mass consumption… who cares. Second, I’m using a super new video codec in which most people probably don’t have yet (but can easily, freely, upgrade to here). Third, the video that I am posting is 8 minutes long, which is probably 2-3 times longer then it should be, but I have a lot to share with people and I found it hard to cut footage about a plant or my frozen friends.
Basically, I wanted to dive into this new phenomenon of video blogging. I’m really excited about it’s possibilities and have been amazed at the global talent of people who are already video blogging. (See the list on the right hand of this page) I haven’t watched cable television for the past week, because there is so much content on the web to catch up on. So here it is, for better or worse, my first video blog. If all else fails, at least I can say that I did one and know how to do it (again, the technical geek inside me).
Feel free to post your comments, positive or negative… I can take it! Also, let me know if the h.264 codec enhanced or ruined your viewing experience!
Thanks!
Kev!
[UPDATE]
LimeBlog 06.06.2005 [Quicktime 6 MOV, MPEG-4 - 29.9 mb] – Okay, I decided to use MPEG-4 codec for a few months still until the mass is caught up. I realize that it is not fair for some people to upgrade to Quicktime 7 if they do not want to shell out another $30 to go pro, assuming they just went pro with Quicktime 6. Thanks for allowing me to play

Oh I just loved your tour. It inspires me to do a tour of my home town and beach. Nice office space! The Bea Arthur fan shrine cracked me up. Luvin’ the G5.
Please do more for our viewing enjoyment.

BTW, I am on a Windows XP machine running Quicktime 7 Preview and your video played beautifully and loaded fast (using my job’s T1 line).

Kevin…. first, thanks for visiting my site and for the nice comment you made. Second, great introduction! You have lots and lots of great memories on those tapes that anxiously await for you to put on DVD and store in a safe place. Look forward to seeing some clips from a few of them. And last, keep up the good work. Look forward to checking back in on ya.

Hi, Kevin, and welcome to vlogland!
I’m on a mac G4 with QT6 and got only the audio.
Not surprised since this has happened before with other QT7 / h.264 .mov files.

Thanks for letting me know of your experience Jan! I decided to not jump the gun so soon and have posted another, MPEG-4 version of my blog. So hopefully you can now view it successfully!

So nice to see where you do all your wonderful thing from. As a very shy person I applaud you for overcoming your fear of being infront of the camera – you did a great job – and I luv that accent. Looking forward to more vlogs

You’re a braver man than I. I’ve tried a few times to address the camera with my own face and voice and … well, I quickly record over those bits of tape. You do it just fine and it’s wonderful to hear your voice and see your place and get a glimpse at what inspires you and gives you joy. The “overvlogged” entry was a funny and scary at the same time… we’ve all been there, I think, as media consumers.
Keep up the great work, I’m subscribing.

Well, like most people I also have several hamsters and a variety of other frozen rodents in my fridge … the only problem is that you don’t want to get confused when you reach for a lean cuisine … just kidding … nice intro ..

Hey! Nice to meet you!
I really understand about intimidation about talking and looking into the camera. Oddly, it’s more difficult than talking to a real person. Maybe it’s the feeling that you’re crazy because you’re holding a conversation with yourself or imaginary friends. Anyway….I loved your videos (the ones that would load anyway) and will come back often.
